Lam Gods

The famous painting "Lam Gods", that visitors will see for real during this tour.

The guided tour through the old city starts after a talk by Emeritus Prof. Marc De Mey, Director of the Flemish Academic Centre for Science of the Royal Flemish Academy about the famous "Lam Gods" painting.

Then, city guides will show us the highlights of the historical city center, where they will pay special attention to how life was in the days the "Lam Gods" painting was painted and which materials were available in those days. For practical reasons, the participants will be divided into groups of 25 particiants each. The guided tours ends in the cathedral, where we will have the opportunity to see the famous "Lam Gods" painting for real, without being bothered by other visitors. Please make sure you bring your conference badge to be able to enter the cathedral. The tour ends around 18h00, and the conference visitors are free until 19h30. At that time, they are expected for the conference dinner in de ``Oude Vismijn.''

Belfry The Saint Bavo Cathedral

Left: the belfry of Ghent. This building has two purposes: warning of danger by ringing certain bells in the tower, and guarding the documents in which the privileges of the city were written down. Right: the Saint Bavo Cathedral, of which the origin goes back before the year 1000. It is the home of the famous "Lam Gods" painting, but contains numerous other treasures, like the painting "Saint Bavo enters the Convent at Gent" by Peter Paul Rubens.
